about

One of the assignments I had over the year was to make a short video of some sort, as an example of my skills at video editing. I decided to create a trailer using footage of a short film I'd directed called 'Rubbish'.

'Rubbish' was the first film I'd ever directed, only a couple of months into the Film & TV Production course, so I was inexperienced with a lot of things. I was trying to be more ambitious than what I felt most live action TV shows were, which was a pretty dumb idea in hindsight given how little I knew. It's not very good, though I did learn a good deal from it.

Unfortunately, I ended up losing the footage when the external hard drive containing the footage became corrupted, so the trailer I made is the last remnant of it. That, and the music I composed for it.

I wanted to go for something a bit more interesting than a standard trailer, while trying to use what little footage I had, and I decided to base its style off the teaser trailers for 2016's 'Shin Godzilla' (directed by Hideaki Anno). Because of that, I also made a piece inspired by the music featured in the trailers (composed by Shiro Sagisu, who also composed the music for Evangelion 3.0).

That's why this piece features a lot of the tense minimalism seen in the Pillowman credits theme.

Inspirations used:

Persecution of the Masses ~ Shiro Sagisu (Shin Godzilla)
